Skooter reporting 06/09/12

Thursday night, the movie “Prometheus” garnered a bloody good $3.56 million in midnight screenings.

“Prometheus” is set in the 21st century and records a spaceship crew’s unfortunate mission to pursue a star map discovered among the bits and pieces of several ancient Earth civilization in a search to discover the origins of humanity. Spoiler alert: There will be blood.

Most box office forecasters projected that “Prometheus” will gross $50 million in its opening weekend. However, Fox has been conservative in its projections it estimates to make $30 million. The remarkable late-night grosses should guarantee that it far exceeds Fox’s estimates.

Ridley Scott produced and directed from a script co-written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. The stars includes, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce. Lindelof and Tony Scott are also producers.

The studio puts the production budget at $130 million.

"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" might be a little bit ahead of “Prometheus” but analysts and insiders say, it's too close to call. Meantime, it's clear the current No. 1, "Snow White and the Huntsman," is going down.
