Thursday night, the movie “Prometheus” garnered a bloody good $3.56 million in midnight screenings.
“Prometheus” is set in the 21st century and records a spaceship crew’s unfortunate mission to pursue a star map discovered among the bits and pieces of several ancient Earth civilization in a search to discover the origins of humanity. Spoiler alert: There will be blood.
Most box office forecasters projected that “Prometheus” will gross $50 million in its opening weekend. However, Fox has been conservative in its projections it estimates to make $30 million. The remarkable late-night grosses should guarantee that it far exceeds Fox’s estimates.
Ridley Scott produced and directed from a script co-written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. The stars includes, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender,, and Guy Pearce. Lindelof and are also producers.
The studio puts the production budget at $130 million.
"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" might be a little bit ahead of “Prometheus” but analysts and insiders say, it's too close to call. Meantime, it's clear the current No. 1, "Snow White and the Huntsman," is going down.
