Ivory Coast - Gbagbo denies reports of 'imminent' surrender

It seems 7 UN Peacekeepers of Niger were killed in an ambush in west Ivory Coast when they were patrolling the area between two villages – this is considered to be a violation of International Law.

This has been reported in The Australian dated the 9th of June 2012.

The two villages are Para and Tai and the panic stricken villagers are fleeing to neighboring Liberia.

The western regions of Ivory Coast are believed to be the most unstable part of the country and deadly attacks have left more than 3000 dead since late 2010.

Reports of the Human Rights Watch have informed that, after July-2011, 40 persons have lost their lives in raids conducted by supporters of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo – Gbagbo was captured on 11th of April 2011 and is in custody in The Hague since November.

He is charged with crimes against humanity.
