The horrific slaying and dismemberment of Chinese student Jun Lin bears enough similarities to a Hollywood murder earlier this year that Los Angeles and Montreal police have begun exploring possible connections.

The LAPD have asked Montreal about the location of Magnotta in January, when Medellin’s body parts were found.

Magnotta’s extensive postings on the Internet have said he has spent time in Los Angeles.

In January, a head in a plastic shopping bag was found by a man walking his dog in a Los Angeles park near the fabled Hollywood sign. The victim was identified as Hervey Medellin, a 66-year-old retired employee of Mexicana Airlines.His hands and feet were found later in a nearby shallow hole in the ground.

Luka Rocco Magnotta is currently accused of murdering, dismembering, and mailing to assorted locations in Canada has been identified as his lover—and the LAPD has confirmed that Medellin was gay.

In a Facebook posting found by the New York Observer, a man identifying himself as Luka Magnotta.He posted a Los Angeles-area code phone number.

Meanwhile, the British tabloid The Sun reported that a pimp identified as Alex believed that Magnotta was working as a prostitute in Los Angeles at the time of Medellin's killing.

"It's an open investigation. Our detectives are trying too see if there is a connection," said an LAPD spokesman.
