For the past two weeks the eight amateurs on “Duets” have matched up with the superstars for two performances each; this week one of them will be going home.
The music begins with a duet from John Legend and Jennifer Nettles of “I Got the Music”.
This week the singers will be performing songs that inspire them.
Alexis Foster and Robin get the competition started with a performance of “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack. John said Alexis’ voice was clean and she did a good job. Kelly said that while Alexis was fun to look at but there was something awkward about the performance. Jennifer noted that Alexis had grown since last week’s performance.
John Glosson and Jennifer performed the spiritual song “How Great Thou Art”. John began the performance singing a cappella. Kelly is looking for a secret way to get John off the show because she thinks John is too good; adding that John and Jennifer sounded like they had been singing together forever. Robin said John gave him every feeling he needed. John said the pair sounded beautiful together and delivered a wonderful version of the song.
Jordan Meredith and Kelly performed the Miranda Lambert song “Mama’s Broken Heart”. John loved the performance saying Jordan looked like a rock star and owned it. Robin said Jordan looked tasty as pie and was a whole new person. Jennifer loved the performance saying Jordan looked and acted like a star.
After a whirlwind first week and sharing the top spot with J Rome; Meleana chose the song that got her called back, “If I Aint’s Got You” by Alicia Keys. Kelly said that she could tell Melenana loved the song and it was very well done; Kelly added that Meleana and John had a natural grace and chemistry together. Jennifer noted that Meleana really got into the song and Meleana performed like a seasoned performer. Robin said it was a great song choice and Meleana was meant to sing the song.
Olivia Chisholm and Robin took on the Beyonce and Jay-Z hit “Crazy in Love”. Jennifer said she could tell Olivia had fun and was blown away with the performance. Kelly loved the performance; saying that she couldn’t wait to hear Olivia’s album. John loved how Olivia opened up; adding that the performance was great.
J Rome chose the Laura Branigan/Michael Bolton song “How am I Supposed to Live without You” – a song he dedicated to his Grandpa who died recently. After the performance J Rome broke down. John said J Rome is a phenomenal vocalist. Robin simply clapped; and in tears Kelly said J Rome is so good.
Jason Farol and Kelly performed the Leonard Cohen hit “Halelujah”. Jason got a surprise visit from his Dad during the week and brought words of support with him. Robin called the performance lovely; adding that Jason belongs on the stage. John said it was a great song to show off Jason’s tone. Jennifer loved the song choice and Jason’s connection to the song.
Last up before the elimination round was Bridget Carrington and John with a performance Bridget dedicated to her Dad with the Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight hit “I Heard it through the Grapevine”. Robin said Bridget did a great job. Jennifer said Bridget had attitude and the performance sounded great; and Kelly agreed, adding Bridget was fun to watch.

Jason and Alexis face off in an a cappella battle to fight for the right to stay in the competition. Jason sang “Me and Mrs. Jones” and Bridget performed “Natural Woman”. Kelly had to side with Jason – he is one of her singers. Robin told both singers no matter what happens to not give up on their dreams and to keep singing. John agreed with Robin and congratulated them for being here. And Jennifer agreed with the guys and asked where there voices were earlier. Kelly added that just because they didn’t make it on the show doesn’t mean the singers could not make it in the business.
After putting in their scores, the first elimination of the season was Robin’s singer Alexis Foster.
Next week “Duets” will move to a special night and time on Wednesday 9:30pm with some party songs.
