
The National Archives of the United States found the first report of the first doctor to reach Abraham Lincoln after the assassination attempt on him in Ford's Theatre in April 1865 , Washington . A.P reports
Dr Charles Leale 23-year-old after only six weeks in medical practice wrote 21-page report, just hours after Lincoln death
The military surgeon ,who was present in Ford's Theatre and sat 40 feet from Lincoln saw John Wilkes Booth the killer jumped on stage with a knife in his hand. At first he thought Lincoln had been stabbed However, during the inspection, he discovered a gunshot wound to the head.
"I commenced to examine his head (as no wound near the shoulder was found) and soon passed my fingers over a large firm clot of blood situated about one inch below the superior curved line of the occipital bone," Leale reported. "The coagula I easily removed and passed the little finger of my left hand through the perfectly smooth opening made by the ball."
Dr. Charles leal has never mention about his report of the president death until 1909, when he was instructed to give a speech at a ceremony on the occasion by passing centenary on Abraham Lincoln birth .
The historians who discovered the report believe the document has untouched for 147 years “it’s the first draft” of the tragedy, said Daniel Stowell, director of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln.
