Durant hugging mom

The Oklahoma City Thunder has officially made it into the NBA Finals with a startling 107-99 Game 6 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs led by 15 points at halftime, however the second half of the game was all Thunder.

Kevin Durant had a phenomenal 34 points with 14 rebounds. Durant took a moment to hug the home team with 14.6 seconds remaining in the game. Durant ran to the sidelines for a family hug with his mom and two brothers. ''I never want to take those moments for granted,'' Durant said. ''I know it's just one step closer to our dreams, but it felt good.'' They were all crying. The joy, the pride, the excitement and the high expectations for the future could not be held back. “Then I thought, ‘I hope we didn't celebrate too soon,'” Durant's mom, Wanda Pratt, said.

NewsOk reports, “That his family could see it, enjoy it, revel in it meant the world. You could tell that in the smile that popped onto his face when he was asked after the game about that group hug. “For them to be here at the biggest stage in basketball — the NBA — is just a blessing,” Durant said.”

This young team has been extremely inspirational as they “were turning into men before our eyes,” reports Yahoo Sports. “When the game was well in hand, Kevin Durant focused on being a son rather than a conquering hero. After dishing out a key assist for a Kendrick Perkins dunk and seeing James Harden grab the rebound from a missed Manu Ginobili three-pointer, Durant walked over to his mother Wanda and two brothers Tony and Rayvonne for a family hug. It was a touching scene, as well as a fitting cap to a remarkable performance for one of the league's brightest and most likable stars.”

Travelling to OKC recently, the love for the Thunder was very apparent. Banners were displayed on buildings and the love for this team was obvious everywhere. After seeing a scene like the Durant family hug, it is obvious why this team has won the hearts of the Oklahoma fans as well as fans nationwide. Season tickets were sold out. The only way fans could hope to get a seat to the playoff games was to put their names into a drawing. For the thousands of fans unable to get tickets- they stand outside the game watching it on a big screen television and feeling as close to their team as possible. The love for this team is overwhelming. As they head toward the Finals, this love will only continue to grow.
