You did it Macon! In 14 days you beat the odds and broke a local record for finding homes for the 93 unfortunate dogs and cats who longed for homes of their own and loving families.
The last 5 dogs were adopted today by a rescue group. We at MPD and MAC are so grateful for the care and concern the community – particularly rescue groups, have displayed.
Now, the task at hand is fumigating the building beginning on Thursday, June 7. MAC will close at the end of business on Wednesday, June 6 and reopen on Monday, June 11. At that time a decision will be made when the building will be fit for the return of animals.
Please remember that the bugs, rodents, etc. that are found and die as a result of the fumigation will need to be removed and the building cleaned and readied for the animals.
Because no one can enter the building during MAC’s closure, Animal Control calls will be taken via the main MPD number – 751-7500. Dogs and cats will be picked up on an emergency basis only.
During the closure the MAC staff will be reduced, giving them an opportunity to take vacations. Working employees will be on-call for situations that arise.
"Now is the time for Macon/Bibb residents to make pledges of personal responsibility regarding their pets – starting with spaying and neutering. Otherwise, it’s a matter of time before the numbers escalate and we’re back to where we started". Said Van Vandewalker, Sokesman for the event.
