According to an ABC 5 report, an Iowa man named John was overjoyed to discover parts of an extinct species’ skeleton some two years ago. Initially, John and his sons found a gigantic bone, buried deep in the dirt. However, later the family learned the enormous bone(s) they discovered accidentally; were actually a Mammoth Skeleton.
According to the details, the said Iowa family were engaged in digging their backyard some two years ago when, all of a sudden the father told his helping sons; there was a huge bone buried underneath the surface. John told that the marrow line he observed around the edge of the bone suggested that it was a bone, a really big one.
John and his sons kept the secret to themselves until they decided that some experts must be enlisted; so they would help extracting rest of their ‘discovery.’ For the purpose, they contacted a team of University of Iowa Researchers, who identified that the original bone was the femur of mammoth.
Researchers further uncovered the vertebrae and ribs of the mammoth; kept by John safely, in his living room. The discovery brought excitement for both the archaeologists and palaeontologists; to them, it was highly unlikely and unusual to find so many of a mammoth’s bones; in one place.
The ‘sole owner’ John however said he was not sure yet whether what to do with the bones!
