In one of those truly rare moments to relish in history, Queen Elizabeth II got onstage with daughter-in-law Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, son Prince Charles, singers Sir Elton John, Dame Shirley Bassey, Kylie Minogue and other esteemed artists to sing the British national anthem “God Save the Queen” during the Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace on June 4, 2012 in London, England.
For this once-in-a-lifetime performance, her majesty looked really glamorous in her gold lamé ensemble, her silver hair done up to perfection.
In the audience were the Queen’s family, her son Prince Andrew’s daughter princess Beatrice, daughter-in-law Catherine Duchess of Cambridge and grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry rocking out to the concert. Granddaughter Zara Phillips with husband Mike Tindall were sitting right behind them.
Atlanta resident Sir Elton John performed in his glittery lipstick pink coat tails and matching pink sunglasses, while Sir Paul McCartney strummed his guitar in his militaristic jacket with embroidered leaves (there has to be a very fancy military term for those embellishments, but it escapes me at this writing!) at the collar and cuffs.
Singer Kylie Minogue performed on stage in her Pearlie Queen biker jacket and shorts outfit, complete with pearly hat, with her backup singers in fringed beaded skirts and pearly tops.
The Diamond Jubilee concert featured performances from singers Will.i.am, Stevie Wonder, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Rolf Harris, Renee Fleming, Annie Lennox – complete with angel’s wings, Grace Jones, Cliff Richard, Madness, Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams and Cheryl Cole.
Queen Elizabeth however, did not attend the entire three-hour concert but arrived to enjoy the best of the show after dinner. Husband Prince Philip was not present for the performance but probably watched a televised version from home.
