WORRIED Akwa Ibom elite in Southern Nigeria, wants President Goodluck Jonathan's Administration to hold aviation officials responsible for the Dana aircraft crash that claimed 153 lives in Lagos, on Sunday.
Mr. Ezekiel Ette, in an online statement made available to AkanimoReports on Monday, said, ''we need to hold those who broke the law accountable for the decision to allow a non airworthy discarded plane to take to the sky in violation of the federal regulation.
According to him, ''in April, I flew with Dana Airlines from Uyo to Lagos, twice. It was obvious that the airline has an aged fleet and the descent into the Akwa Ibom Airport was rather on the bumpy side''.
Continuing, Ette, said ''it is not a secret that African airlines depend on old discarded aircrafts from western countries to replenish their fleet.
''What would it take for Nigeria to ban this practice of the acquisition of the Tokunbo (old) planes? Air mishaps are unfortunately now almost yearly occurrence and the aircrafts in our skies are now flying coffins. Must we continue to live this way and die this way? This is sad''. ENDS
