A bomb in a car left in a car park in the Bab al-Muadham area of Baghdad went off and killed 18 persons apart from injuring at least 60 and resulting in heavy damages to surrounding buildings and offices of the health department and offices of the Shi'ite Endowment
This has been reported in Sydney Morning Herald of 4th of June 2012.
The car had been rigged with explosives and the blast occurred near a government building which houses the Shi'ite Endowment.
This is an office which is responsible to manage the religious affairs of the Shi'ite sect and includes holy sites and mosques all over Iraq.
The government headed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who is a a Shi'ite, has been facing problems after the withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq and the tension between the Kurdish and Sunni political groups keep taking a heavy toll of human lives.
