It is a great honor for former Finance Secretary Roberto de Ocampo and for the Philippines for being cited by Queen Elizabeth 11 of England as recipient of the Order of the British Empire(OBE). Such honor is in recognition for Ocampo's contribution to the development of Philippine-UK relations for over 40 years.
The British honor granted to Ocampo in which he is now an Honorary Officer, recognizes distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public service outside the Civil Service and work with charitable organization of all kinds, the embassy said as Santos further reported.

Such untiring services of De Ocampo "has significantly uplifted the reputation and prestige of the UK in the Philippines, the British envoy said.

In response De Ocampo said, the recognition "is not only an immeasurably precious one to me for my lifetime but treasure for my family to have and keep and to pass on to the next generation."
The contributions of De Ocampo in fostering Filipino-British relations are examples of an individual's unique achievements in bringing together the ideals and aspirations of both nations for common understandings and mutual benefits as friends. De Ocampo being an exemplar in that regard, efforts, initiatives and parallel achievements are highly encouraged to be cultivated.
