Out of 51 contenders from different states, Miss Rhode Island was adjudged Miss USA 2012 before a huge spectator in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 3. She will compete in the upcoming 61st Miss Universe 2012.
Olivia Culpo, 20, became the successor of Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella of California, beating out other beautiful and intelligent ladies for the most coveted crown last night in Planet Hollywood on the casino Las Vegas strip. She was applauded in voicing out her support to transgenders on joining a beauty pageant.
"I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive to take that road because there is a tradition of natural-born women, but today where there are so many surgeries and so many people out there who have a need to change for a happier life, I do accept that because I believe it's a free country," Culpo said, according to New York Post.
Born from a family of musicians, Culpo herself is a cellist. She is also a sophomore at Boston University.
The event which was hosted by Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic has three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview question, report says. The board of judges included, , Ali Fedotowsky, Rob Kardashian, Dayana Mendoza, , Cat Cora, and George Kotsiopoulos.

First Runner Up: Nana Meriwether of Maryland
Second Runner Up: Audrey Bolte of Ohio
Third Runner Up: Jade Kelsall of Nevada
Fourth Runner Up: Jasmyn Wilkins of Georgia
Sources also said Culpo’s mission is to raise awareness and funding for breast and ovarian cancer.
