A dead 1-month-old baby was found in the trunk of a car Friday in Florida; the boy's father has been arrested, police said. Coral Springs police Lt. Joe McHugh identified the baby as Josiah Saintil and the baby boy’s dad is Janus Saintil, 24, was taken into custody outside a Coral Springs apartment. Charges were not immediately filed.
The cause of death has not yet been known until an autopsy will be performed on the child.
According to police report, Saintil was with the child's mother, another female and a male adult Thursday night in a stolen car heading to a North Lauderdale Walmart when he became mad and drew out a gun. He abducted his victims and drove about 85 miles north to Port St. Lucie, where Saintil dropped the baby at a house and then ordered the male to take money from a nearby ATM. Saintil fled the area after the male victim shouted for help. He evidently took back the baby before returning to South Florida, authorities said.
Janus Saintil was arrested without resisting Friday afternoon after apparently parking the stolen car next to a Coral Springs police officer. When a police officer searched the stolen car, the baby's body was found, according to a Broward County Sheriff's news release.
Court records show that over the past six years, Saintil has been arrested numerous times, including charges of armed robbery and trespassing. In 2008, he was sentenced to two years in prison for grand theft. Saintil also had an outstanding warrant in Coral Springs, authorities said.
