First Lady Michelle Obama Discusses State and Official Visits

Former US President George Bush accompanied by Lady Laura Bush shared the stage of the White House with present US President Barack Obama on the occasion of unveiling their portrait as reported in zeenews.com dated 1st of June 2012.

While welcoming George Bush, his predecessor, President Barack Obama said that the White House was a living museum and an enduring symbol of American democracy.

In the words of Barack Obama, presidents are just temporary residents of the White House and nothing but renters – they would have to vacate when the time runs out.

The portrait shows George Bush standing in the center of the Oval Office with his right hand resting on an armchair that had been made in 1818 especially for the White House by William King Jr, a cabinet maker of the District of Columbia.

Lady Laura Bush had selected the Green Room as the setting of her portrait – she had refurbished it in 2007.

The portraits were done by John Howard Sanden, an eminent artist.
