Fox News losing their audience as cable TV ratings drop

Fox News' Female Short Skirts Get Ratings Over CNN, MSNBC

Fox News is now yielding considerably less influence over cable news audiences, as evidenced by a huge drop in the ratings for their top shows.

The New York Times reported today that Fox news ratings have had “some steep declines since last May. It was down about 21 percent in prime time in the 25-to-54 group.”

Fox News shows hosted by Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren are now seeing their smallest audience since mid-2008.

Ratings for MSNBC and CNN are also down.

While viewers may appear to be losing interest in getting their news from cable TV, there are also numbers that suggest the tightening of household budgets in a sluggish economy may be an additional culprit.

“The U.S. subscription-TV industry first showed a small net loss of subscribers a year ago. This year, that trickle has turned into a stream. The chief cause appears to be persistently high unemployment and a housing market that has many people living with their parents,” according to an Associated Press report cited in Oregonlive.

Therefore, it seems that Fox News and other cable TV news shows might remain a great way to reach an affluent audience, but no longer includes 83.2 million people, who may no longer have the money to pay for the luxury of cable TV.

thanks for the report Itobin.

I am one of the 83.2 million without cable. I havent had it for almost two years now, and to be honest I don't miss it.

People like me get their news from the internet, and Netflix has all the movies and tv shows one can handle.

Unless cable ever offers ala carte service, why should the average person pay exorbitant rates for 200 channels and only 20 of them are any good?

The fact that less and less people watch news in general is not a good trend - less perception, more ignorance. Although not watching FOX news is a good thing - more perception, less ignorance.

Not watching news in general is a very good thing, ABC, NBC, CBS LA Times NY Times, Boston Globe and and entire industry is so liberally bias that the news is no longer news. It is a mix of entertainment and leftist agenda pandering. It is so funny that Fox is one Cable news network and people are having heart failure over their right leaning tendency.
It will take another generation to level the playing field. So many believe what the media proposes that they lean pretty far left.
Most people that believe the media have a hard time believing and understanding that the majority of this country is actually conservative. They media makes you think that everyone believes as they do and if you believe otherwise they belittle you or make people feel that they are in the wrong.
Good riddance to all media, oh yeah nothing said about CNN and MSNBC hitting all time lows in more than 20 years. Fox is still top of the heap, although the heap is just smaller. More liberal bias in reporting here!

yes I am about to call my cable provider and cancel TV - we simply do not watch it anymore! we also can no longer afford it - just a waste of money! I prefer to do pro-active things like write, rather than sit mindlessly watching the boob tube anyway!
