Just days after he took the stage at a gala Las Vegas fund raiser with noted birther,
Rumors of Eugene's association with Romney were made public when police released a photo taken of the two together, "horsing around," as authorities called it.
"Looks like one of them damn 'LOLCATS' goddam things," a Miami police officer said.
Eugene was shot and killed by Miami police while chewing off 80 percent of his victim's face in the broad daylight on a busy Miami highway Saturday. The victim, 65-year old Ronald Poppo, remains in serious condition in a Miami hospital. Both men were believed to be homeless. Both were known to be naked at the time of the attack.
Asked on his charter plane whether being rumored as "palling around" with a face-eating killer gave him reason for pause, Romney simply said he was grateful for all his supporters.
Romney told reporters, “You know, I don't agree with all the people who support me and my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in,” Romney said. “But I need to get 50.1% or more and I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people.”
Police say it took four bullets to kill the naked Eugene, who had eaten most of his victim's face by then. Romney said he could not recall having ever met Eugene, although he did recall some "horseplay" with a voter during a pre-Florida Primary swing through the state earlier this year.
Romney's team would not comment on the record. However, one senior staffer demanding to speak off the record did say this:
"I don't care if the dude was killed naked, wearing a diaper, or a tuxedo. We're not concerned with how much of his victim's face he had dangling from his mouth when he was killed. We're trying to win an election here, and we'll take all the support we can get."
