
Singer and songwriter Bob Dylan was honored with the Medal of Freedom by US President Barrack Obama at the White House on May 29.
Bob described as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He was among the 13 recipients of the US highest civilian award to name the few like novelist Toni Morrison and astronaut John Glenn.
This highest civilian honor was established by former President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The presidential Medal of Freedom is given to individuals who make especially meritorious contributions to US security, world peace, culture or "other significant public or private endeavors".
Other recipients are basketball coach Pat Summitt, epidemiologist William Foege, US Associate Justice John Paul Stevens, Israeli President Shimon Peres,Girls Scout Founder Juliette Gordon Low, Polish officer Jan Karski, Activist Dolores Huerta, Former Justice John Doar, US First Female Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Japanese Gordon Hirabayashi.
