Presidential hopeful clinched the nomination tonight, beating his only remaining opponent, Texas congressman by a landslide in Paul's home state. Whether or not Paul will officially end his quixotic campaign and endorse the winner is yet to be seen although there have been many indications this will happen in the next few weeks (Paul officially dropped out of the 2008 race in June).
First, Dr. Paul's son Senator May 23 FOX Business News interview ( approx 1:57 )( R-Kentucky) said the following in a
"Governor Romney would be precisely the person I would want to turn around the failing business like our government."
In an official Ron Paul Campaign 2012 conference call on May 15 Ron Paul 2012 campaign strategist Jesse Benton said the following at approx: 1:57:
"We recognize that Governor Romney has what is very likely to be an insurmountable delegate lead and our count has him just under 200 delegates away from locking down the nomination with bound delegates and uh, we acknowledge that we are very very unlikely to be unable to block that nomination."
Furthermore in an interview on CNN Ron Paul himself claimed his continued accumulation of delegates are for influencing the party's agenda and not embarrassing Romney by stealing the nomination:
“That is against my plan so I don’t like that even being a suggestion.”
Nevertheless, Ron Paul's supporters, who include a disturbingly high number of Neo-Nazi's, have pledged a "scorched earth " policy in attaining more delegates in states like Oklahoma, where under the GOP's 2012 National Delegate Allocation Methodology Ron Paul did not receive the required percentage of votes (15%) to qualify for any delagates. Yet his supporters held their own rump convention in the parking lot outside the real state convention, where fist-fights allegedly broke out between some of Paul's young twenty-something supporters and elderly Romney suppporters. An assassination of Romney has even been discussed by Ron Paul movement poster boy Adam Kokesh.
Paul campaign manager John Tate has condemned these and other actions as "vengeful ...or markedly distasteful". Time will tell if Paul will be man enough to admit defeat and call off his "rEVOLution" or if his out of control supporters will only escalate the "movement" towards violent uprising as one commentor on the Daily Paul supporter watering hole suggests.
