The huge ravenous rats have terrorized Sydney because, over the years they have become immune to all known types of poison and a situation has now come when they have fallen in love with it!! Obviously, the population is terrified.
This has been reported in The Australian on dated 30th of May 2012.
Rats have, reportedly, become the most dreaded pest as of now.
Believed to have entered Australia with the First Fleet, no commercially available poison is able to frighten them off – in fact, experts believe that they have been addicted to poison.
The rodents apparently thrive in some sections of the city like Hyde Park and locations near to the No.4 platform at Town Hall train station but the menace is gradually spreading to other areas.
Australian Museum naturalist Martin Robinson offers a solution – bait them with bacon rind and other strong-smelling food sources like anchovies, simultaneously, tie the bait down with fuse-wire so that the rat is not able to flee with the bait and, thereby, the catch would be sprung.
