MILAN (Reuters) - A powerful earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred Tuesday in Emilia-romagna , northern Italy, at least ten deaths, it was learned from sources close to the Italian police, who feared a balance sheet much heavier.

This earthquake occurs nine days after a previous earthquake in the same region which has made seven dead, damaged many buildings and forced 7,000 people to sleep in tents. The main shock of the new earthquake was recorded to 09h00 to less than 30 km from Modena, at a depth of 9.6 km, according to the USGS, the American Institute of geological standby. According to the National Institute of Geophysics italian, at least two aftershocks were felt to 13h00 in the province of Modena, of magnitude 5.3 and 5.1 , at 11 km depth. The Italian media reported that the earthquake has caused the collapse of buildings already damaged during the earthquake of 20 May and it was stronger than that of nine days ago. "The situation is very serious, there are people trapped under the rubble," said the mayor of San Felice sul Panaro, Alberto Silvestri at the television SkyTG24. There is at least one death in this northern community of Modena, depending on the information chain continues. Of Italian officials have explained that the relief operations had been made more difficult by the interruption of mobile telephony network.
