A blast hit the centre of Nairobi city minutes after 1pm local time,Monday.The blast occured along Moi avenue at a shopping mall next to The MKU towers.Several people were taken to hospital with various injuries as the shop where the blast happened was guttered by fire that the Nairobi fire brigade put off.
There were contradicting initial statements: Speaking to the local media police commssioner Mathew Iteere ruled out the possibility of a bomb or a grenade attack and said they were looking into possibilty of and electric fault,as he put the number of injured to 28 people.The scene was cordoned from the public and road leading to the area like Moi Avenue,Tubman road and Riiver road were closed to enable rescue effort.
On the other hand, Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, speaking to journalist later about 3pm local time at the scene, condemed the act describing it as a heinous act aimed to scare Kenyans. He added that Kenyan will not be cowed by terrorist attacks and that the government was willing to use all its resources to protect life and property of its people.
