The American born Canadian WWE wrestlerhas been suspended after he crumpled and kicked the Brazilian flag at the WWE’s debut show in Brazil.
WWE released a statement on their website over the incident,” Chris Jericho has been suspended for 30 days due to the irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at WWE live event in Sao Paulo on May 24”.
Police were called in after the incident, which is illegal in the country, and threatened Jericho with arrest and cancellation of the WWE event. Jericho had to cough up a public apology to avoid the cancellation and a riot.
The incident happened before Chris Jericho’s fight against CM Punk. Punk brought the Brazilian flag into the ring but Jericho whipped it off his hands and raised it high. The crowd initially thought he was raising their flag out of respect but then Jericho crumpled it, threw it on the floor and repeatedly stepped on it, earning boos from the full-house crowd.
On the WWE site Jericho said,” I made a bad judgment call in the course of entertaining fans in Brazil. It was a bad move. I did it with [our] fans’ entertainment in mind and I’ll accept the consequences for that.”
