William Hickman’s mother came to know about a frightening incident involving her 13-year old son only when his Dad narrated to her the whole story beginning with ‘we almost lost William last night’.
13-year old William Hickman of Washington had gone camping to Wallace Falls near Seattle with his 9-year old brother Heather and Dad and had got trapped on top of a ledge – it took an all-night rescue operation to bring him back to safety.
The boy had wanted to cool off and, suddenly, discovered that he was trapped on top of a ledge with the falls raging down below at a depth of nearly 80-meters.
William remained on the ledge precariously balanced for the next 8-hours as his father and other men in the group tried to rescue him.
They got a helicopter but the rescue team could not reach him directly because of the jutting ledge - so they descended 200-feet below and climbed p to reach William.
It was a wonderful effort by the team.
