A gruesome murder of an elderly woman has been unearthed by Chinese Police. The ill-fated lady was hit by the car of a couple in Zhejiang province of the country last month and received critical injuries but remained alive. Owing to the fear of arrest by the police, the couple allegedly strangulated the 68-year-old lady and buried her on the roadside. The police claims the woman was alive at the time of burial but the couple did not care. According to the police, a number of eyewitnesses have given statements, saying the woman was injured but alive at the time of burial.
An eyewitness told the police the couple was drunk at the time of accident but promised to take the lady to the hospital for the treatment. However, the police later found the body dumped near the roadside and shifted it to the hospital for autopsy. The autopsy report suggests the woman was alive at the time of burial and was suffocated to death. Fortunately, the police have arrested the couple and started interrogation. However, it is premature to say what punishment would be awarded to the couple, as the case is yet to be decided by a Chinese court of law. It is unfortunate and regrettable that the couple killed the old lady just to escape their arrest.
The death of the lady has also sparked a widespread discussion in China over moral standards of Chinese people. Majority of the people have condemned the killing of the lady and termed the incident as tragic and unfortunate. They believe that Chinese society has fallen to the lowest ebbs of the morality, as indifferent attitude towards such cases is fast becoming a matter of routine in the country. China is also considered to be one of the most conservative countries with respect to human rights and freedom of speech. Youth of China largely appears concerned with moral deterioration of the society.
However, the police of the country deserve applause for arresting the couple for the crime even after a lapse of a month. It can be said that it's a rare case in the history of China wherein the police have actively followed a case and finally succeeded in arresting the alleged criminals. The police of China are equipped with sophisticated weapons and its personnel are trained on modern techniques of interrogation, but have limited mandate to pursue certain cases, especially the political ones. However, the police of China are believed to be hard on dissidents and youth, which occasionally expresses their anger against the government by trying to organize protest rallies in different cities.
The youth of China is considered to be active and energetic. It expressed the same anger and angst over the ever-declining morality of Chinese people when a two-year-old child was run over by a speeding vehicle and ignored by passersby.
