22 year old Joseph Bucci spent almost $70k mistakenly deposited into his bank account

22 year old Joseph Bucci is facing two felony charges for spending almost $70k that was mistakenly deposited into his bank account. Bucci noticed the money had been deposited into his Wells Fargo bank account and a few weeks later he started spending the money. $69,300 was deposited into his bank account and according to police- Bucci spent all but $2,000 of the money that was not his to spend. He reportedly bought airline tickets, food, gas, a car, a dog, furniture and helped relatives pay bills.

Bucci surrendered himself to the police in Bensalem on Tuesday and has been charged with receiving stolen property and theft. Both of these charges are third degree felonies. He is facing up to fourteen years in prison. Bucci has been released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Unsecured bail means the defendant doesn’t have to pay any money unless he fails to appear for court.

It seems a bit strange to be charged with felony when you spend money that is in your bank account! Maybe he thought that he had an anonymous donation from an admirer!
