The finale of "American Idol" season 11 took place last night with Phillip Phillips coming out as the winner in the end.
After a long night of waiting and anticipation, it was announced that the winner for the season was Phillip Phillips. This was the fifth consecutive time that a white male had been declared as the winner of "American Idol".
"American Idol" season 11 finale took place at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The show opened up with the contestants singing' "Runaway Baby", all dressed in white. During the performance, Joshua Ledet tried to perform a split, but fell over from the stage. After that, the judges walked in and took their seats.
then took the stage and announced first thing that a record votes had been cast yet again with 132 million votes. After the announcement, the two finalists, Phillip Phillips and 16-year-old , were called on the stage and asked about how they were feeling.
After that, a series of performances kicked off and some of the famous people who performed on the show werefrom Creedence, , , Reba Mcintire, , Florida and .
During the show, the "American Idol" season finale ritual of going over the auditioning tapes was also followed and a footage of the auditions was shown. In that clip, the funniest part was when a contestant stared at Ryan Seacrest and asked who he was.
During last night's episode, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez both performed on their favorite numbers. For Phillips, those songs were "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and "Bad Moon Rising", while for Sanchez, it was Dreamgirls' hit song, "And I'm Telling You".
During the show, Ford cars were given to both the finalists and their mentors.
Towards the end of the show, the winner of season 11 was announced and for the first time ever, Phillips showed some real emotions and broke down while performing after the win. Now that "American Idol" season 11 is over, Phillips will be immediately going for his kidney surgery, as his doctors had urged him to seek medical attention as soon as the show ended.
