100 Afghan schoolgirls 'poisoned' probe 18.04.12

More than 70 schoolgirls of the Bibi Haji School in Takhar district in northeast Afghanistan have suffered from some sort of poisoning in school as reported by BBC dated 23rd of May 2012.

The girls had complained of nausea, headaches and dizziness and it is believed that some sort of gas might have been sprayed or released in the classrooms – the hand of the Taliban is suspected.

Half of the girls have been discharged after preliminary treatments but the others have been hospitalized – there are some women teachers among those who have fallen ill. Some of the victims are as young as 10.

It may be recalled that in April-2012, more than 150 schoolgirls in Takhar had fallen sick after drinking water in the school – that time also intentional poisoning by the Taliban had been suspected – to deny education to the girls.
