All 60 workers trapped in the mine of the Mimosa Platinum mine in Zimbabwe due to fire and the collapse of walls in it have been brought to the surface and are safe as reported in The Globe and Mail dated 22nd of May 2012.
No one has suffered any injuries.
Mimosa is a joint venture company between Impala Platinum (Implats) of South Africa and the Aquarius Platinum Ltd of London.
The mine had produced 104,000 ounces of platinum group metals last year and the loss due to this fire has yet to be ascertained.
90% of the world’s platinum lies in South Africa and south Zimbabwe.
