Senate gives deadline to Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona to appear on the Court

Philippines Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona has given a deadline until Friday afternoon at exactly 2:00 o'clock by the Senate to appear on the impeachment trial.

Corona who was presented to the Senate court on Tuesday afternoon to answer the question from the Senators asking him in relation to his case on impeachment. He gace his strong speech to the court and says that his conscience is clear. He even agreed to let the public know this dollar account and the later more dollar accounts presented by prosecution panel are untrue.He signed a waiver opening all his bank accounts and assets to scrutiny but said he will only submit the waiver if Sen. Franklin Drilon and the 188 impeachment complainants in the House of Representatives sign a similar document.

On the middle of the trial all most are shock when he left the court without any excuses and without being properly discharged by the Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile. The incident angered Enrile who ordered the entire Senate building to be locked down to prevent Corona from leaving. Corona's lawyers apologized for the incident and said their client was suffering hypoglycemia.Enrile warned that Corona’s testimony will be stricken off the record and the case submitted for resolution if the chief justice does not come back to the witness stand today.

On that Tuesday night Corona went to The Medical City due to his condition become worsen. He got confined at the intensive care unit (ICU) and not allowed to leave the hospital within 24 hours as per doctor's advice.

Enrile set the oral arguments for both parties on Monday. Both will be given an hour each to present their case. This means the prosecution will no longer provide any rebuttal evidence.Cuevas had informed the court that Corona will not be able to return to the impeachment court until Monday next week due to his illness. He said Corona’s doctors were monitoring the chief justice for 48 hours after assessing a near “heart attack” last night.
