Skooter reporting 05/23/12
Arrested and booked on suspicion of murder and kidnapping, 21-year-old Antolin Garcia-Torres in connection in the case of a missing California teen, 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, who vanished March 16 from Morgan Hill. Garcia-Torres was arrested at the Safeway store in Morgan Hill where he is an employee, Fox affiliate KTVU reports.
A red Jetta was seized on May 8 which was linked to the case and authorities said that the owner is Garcia-Torres, a resident of nearby San Martin. DNA evidence found by authorities links Garcia-Torres to clothing found in the missing girl’s backpack, which was recovered after she disappeared, KTVU reported.
Garcia-Torres was identified as a possible suspect and was placed under 24-hour surveillance at both his home and at the Safeway store. A source tells the KTVU Garcia-Torres was questioned for over two hours Monday.
At a press con Tuesday, authorities said they will release more details of the case.
Sierra left her home on the morning of March 16 to go to school and since then she hasn't been seen or heard. Authorities believe she was snatched while walking to a school bus stop.
A search was launched by volunteers and sheriff's officials in the fields and open spaces near and around Morgan Hill, including reservoirs in the area.
