It has been a while since we got any update on Steve McQueen’s latest film collaboration with Michael Fassbender. The film is called Twelve Years a Slave and it is getting more attention lately. One of the reasons is the latest actor to join it.
The latest news comes in the form of actor Paul Dano. Dano will be playing a slave owner in the film. This role is quite different from Dano’s usual character types which could be good. Twelve Years A Slave is based on Solomon Northup’s autobiographical novel which tells the story of a free black man in the 1980s who was promised a job as a violinist in the circus but ended up being drugged and dragged to Louisiana. There, he was sold into slavery where he remained for twelve years.
British actor(Serenity, 2012) will be playing Northup. Fassbender and producer will also star in the film in unspecified roles. Also in negotiations to join the film is actress Adepero Oduye.
Fassbender’s last collaboration with McQueen was in Shame in which he played a troubled sex addict in New York. Shame was considered as one of the best films of 2011 and is one of Fassbender’s best performances to date. Catch Michael Fassbender this June as he joins the crew of, Noomi Rapace and in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Prometheus is Scott’s prequel to Alien and marks the return of the legendary director to science fiction films.
