Coast Guard stopping drug smugglers. Action.

It was a huge catch of 160 bales of marijuana carefully wrapped in plastic and floating in the sea approximately 15 miles from the shore near Dana Point which is located 60 miles south of Los Angeles. This has been reported in skynews dated 22nd of May 2012.

The consignment was picked up by the US Border Patrol who was assisted by the US Coastguards and the deputies of harbor patrol of Orange County.

Prima facie it appears to be a consignment that had fallen into the waters from a large ship because the small boats which drug smugglers on the US-Mexico border normally use would not have been in a position to take such a huge load.

Experience has shown that drug smugglers resort to dumping the load of contraband into the sea when chased by the police but, in this case, there was no boat in sight and also there was no information about any chase.

Hence, the ownership mystery remains ...
