Two Arabian horses were engaged in a photo shoot on the Summerland beaches of Santa Barbara when one of the animals, a 7-year old named William, bolted into the waters. This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz of 20th of May 2012.
It seems the horse, that had never swam before was headed for an oil rig – the Harbour Patrol and the Santa Barbara Coast Guard were able to locate the horse in the Santa Barbara Channel.
The men on the oil-rig saw it too and informed the Coast Guards.
But, it was difficult to make it out. It was like searching for a needle in a haystack because it had its white colored forehead and snout above water and looked like a bird.
Anyway, it was finally located and tied to the side of a boat – the return journey took nearly two hours moving at an extremely slow speed of 1.6-kmph.
