2012 Billboard Music Awards Finalists Adele, Rihanna, Lil Wayne

Las Vegas was glittering with a lot of stars on Sunday as 2012 Billboard Music Awards were held in the happening town. The show featured some scintillating performances by latest celebrities and acknowledged contribution of late stars by giving them tributes.

2012 Billboard Music Awards were hosted by "Modern Family" stars Ty Burell and Julie Bowe. It was a three hour unforgettable star studded event with a sizzling red carpet. The show was broadcast live from Las Vegas and was seen my millions of music lovers all over the country.

Many celebrities couldn’t attend this year’s Billboard Music Awards yet there were performances which had no parallel. Unfortunately Beyonce, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj skipped the event but surprisingly their absence wasn’t too prominent because the show started off with a superb medley by LMFAO. It was a great award function for them as they ended up winning 6 Billboard Music Awards this year including the Hot 100 song of the year trophy for "Party Rock Anthem" and the duo/group honor.

How can one miss out on acknowledging the talent of the maestro herself, Adele? The British songstress was also amongst the biggest winners of the night. Unfortunately Adele wasn’t present at the award function but her name was certainly etched on the hall of fame of Billboard Music Awards. She scored a staggering number of 12 awards, including top artist, top female artist and top album. Not closely following but somewhat near were Lil Wayne and Coldplay who won four awards each.

According to CBS, Taylor Swift continued to be one of the most favorite celebrities of the music industry as she won the Billboard Woman of the Year honor. Justin Bieber lived up to his repute of being a socialite by winning the most social artist, and Katy Perry scored won Spotlight award for being the only female artist to have five No. 1 singles from one album.

As far as the tributes are concerned, Stevie Wonder was acknowledged for his extra ordinary contribution to music as he was given the Icon award. He performed "Higher Ground" and "Overjoyed" with Alicia Keys and closed out with "Superstition." The music fraternity also remembered Whitney Houston by giving her the Millennium award. Bobbi Kristina Brown, Whitney’s daughter came to receive the award on her behalf.

2012 Billboard Music Awards showcased other performances by Perry, Cee Lo Green, Linkin Park, The Wanted, Usher and Chris Brown.
