Turkish PM eulogizes democratic system as panacea to all ills

ISLAMABAD, May 21: Visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday addressed a joint session of Pakistan parliament, saying that democratic system, though difficult to attain, can be harbinger of social, political and economic change in the lives of masses. Mr Erdogan addressed a full attendance of Pakistani law makers besides, the audience included Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, chiefs of Pakistan armed forces, governors of provinces, chief ministers and other foreign dignitaries. He has arrived Islamabad on his five-day official visit on invitation of his counterpart. It is the second address of Turkish Prime Minister to Pakistani parliament. Underlining the importance of parliament in continuation of democratic order in any country, he said that it should keep playing its vital role in attaining the economic and political stability of the country. He says that that any government which owes its birth due to a democratic system ought to share its responsibility for overall welfare of the society. The visiting premier referring to role of opposition says that it should not assail the government without any rhyme or reason but play its positive role for guiding and reforming the government. Erdogan also noted his satisfaction over the existing ties between both nations and expressed his intention to keep supporting Pakistan. The Turkish PM also expressed his pangs of grief over the tragic incidents of Siachen glacier and the Bhoja plane crash. Underlining Pakistan significant role in regional peace, Erdogan says that peace‚ stability and prosperity in Afghanistan will also have positive effects on the economy of Pakistan. He urged all Muslim countries to face the challenges through collective efforts.
