Black faced dolls known as golliwogs, imported from China via internet transactions, have returned to tourists shops in Brisbane as reported in mailonline dated 21st of May 2012.

While many old timers are happy, the same cannot be said of a section of the Aborigine population, especially the elders, and there is a growing dissent. It is giving rise to race row.

The creator of golliwogs is one Florence Upton, a New Yorker born to English parents in 1873.

It may be noted that Golliwog dolls, due to the black faces, have been widely condemned as racist and campaigns in Britain, the U.S. and Europe have managed to remove them from public view.

However it appears to be making a comeback because shops in Queensland are doing good business – the buyers are mostly the aged ones because these revive memories of their own childhood.

A shop in the resort town of Hervey Bay reportedly sells 20 golliwogs a week – these are priced at 10-pound sterling each.

Many youngsters are buying these to gift to their grandparents!!
