Box Office for Dark Shadows, The Avengers

For the third week in a row, The Avengers have conquered the US Box Office. Even the mighty Battleship couldn’t sink the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.

The Avengers brought in an additional $ 55 million last week making its current domestic total to $ 457 million. Adding to more great news for the film, it has now earned $ 1.18 billion on the global box office making it the # 4 top grossing films of all time beating Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Toy Story 3 and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It still has three more films to beat if it hopes to reach the number one spot. Those films are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and James Cameron’s Titanic and Avatar.

Battleship may not have been able to beat The Avengers, but it still did well. It earned $ 25.3 million on its opening week. Added good news is that it already earned $ 230 million internationally. The Dictator lands at number three with $ 17.4 million this week making its total reach $ 24.4 million. But it is still pretty much lower than the opening take of Bruno ($ 30.6 M) and Borat ($ 26.4 M).

The other new release last week was the adaptation of What to Expect When You’re Expecting. It only earned $ 10.5 million and landing at number five despite having an all star cast composed of Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks and Brooklyn Decker. Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows just lost 57% of its audience putting it at number four with $ 12.7 million this week.

Leaving the list this week are The Five-Year Engagement and Chimpanzee. This week, we get to see the Return of the Men in Black as they try to save the Earth from the scum of the universe for the third time. Also opening this week is the horror film Chernobyl Diaries and Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Check out the complete list below:
