60-year old Abdelbaset al-Megrahi had been convicted of bombing a plane in 1988 in which 270 persons had lost their lives, 11 of them were ground casualties.
He has died in his home in Tripoli, Libya as informed by his brother Abdelnasser and reported in guardian.com dated 20th of May 2012.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was suffering from cancer and was an intelligence officer of Libya.
He was known as the Lockerbie bomber and was the only person convicted of the bombing of the PanAm flight 103. It was blown up over Lockerbie just 4-days before Christmas 1988.
It may be recalled that al-Meghari had been sentenced in 2001 to life imprisonment but was released by the Scottish government in August-2009 on compassionate grounds.
He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and doctors had given three months to live – that was nearly 3-years ago!!!

If anyone knows about murder and where the bodies are buried... he would be the one. Some say, he was the mastermind of terror operations carried out by the Libyans in the 1980's. Including the bombing operation in West Berlin and the infamous Lockerbie massacre. This would mean, he's in possession of insider information and the keeper of all the secrets of the Qadhafi regime.
