Chicago Cubs acquire Cincinnati Reds catcher Koyie Hill for cash

Chicago Illinois. Patrick Mooney of reports the Chicago Cubs have acquired Cincinnati Reds catcher Koyie Hill for cash consideration.

The Cubs have had injuries to their other catchers Geovany Soto and Wellington Castro are injured. Soto will miss three to four weeks due to knee surgery and Castro will miss four to seven days due to a MCL sprain on his right knee. The Cubs only have one catcher on the roster rookie Blake Lalli.

Hill 33, signed a minor league deal with the Cubs rival team the St. Louis Cardinals in January after being released by the Cubs in the offseason. Hill did not make the Cardinals Major League roster and was released at the conclusion of spring training.

Hill was given employment by the Cincinnati Reds in late April and was playing baseball with the Reds minor league team in class AA in Pensacola Florida. Hill is expected to join the Cubs immediately to play in the interleague series against the Cubs rival the Chicago White Sox this weekend.
