An explosion took place in Italy at a school on Saturday morning resulting in the death of a teenage girl and injury of several other students.
A terrifying explosion took place outside a school in Italy, while students were going in for their classes, resulting in a panic situation there. The blast killed a teenage girl and injured several others according to reports provided by official sources. The bomb blast took place at 7:45 a.m. just as students were going for their classes on Saturday. In Italy, senior students have school on a Saturday as well. The school where the blast took place is called Morvillo-Falcone school and it is located in Brindisi, right opposite a court in the city. The school is named after the slain anti-Mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone and his wife, Francesca Morvillo-a judge who was killed in the 1992 bombing in Sicily by Cosa Nostra.
According to the reports provided, most of the students got burned due to the bombing and htey taken to the hospital immediately to be treated. One of the girls from the school got killed and another one who was walking beside the deceased girl, is reported to be in critical condition. Some of the officials said that a total of seven students were injured, but other sources have quoted a figure of ten injured students.
The injured students were taken to the Perrirno hospital, where plastic surgery is also being performed on those who got burned. The hospital officials themselves declined to give out information regarding the injured students on phone, but most of them are rumored to be in stable condition.
Initially it was said that the bomb was placed in a garbage can but upon further investigation, it was revealed that the device had been placed on a low wall ringing the school. The device was made from three cooking-gas canisters, a detonator and possibly a timer. The wall near which the device was placed was damaged and burnt completely due to the blast.
The authorities are investigating the incident but they claim that the procedure of the blast is not typical of the mafia present there. However, the blast has exhibited that all the areas there are considered sensitive and the target can be any place in Italy. People in Italy are advised to remain careful and report any package or object which comes across as suspicious to them.
