This week, the mobile app we are going to share is Socialcam. Just like the style of Instagram, it provides an easy way to take and share videos on social circles.

Socialcam is the easiest way to share videos with friends. It makes sharing video from your phone as simple as uploading photos to Facebook. With a few clicks, you’re able to record, tag, and share videos as well as browse, like, and comment on your friends’ videos.

Features—create videos with custom filters:

Previously, Socialcam didn’t come with filters so that videos are heavily compressed even uploaded via WiFi. That is worse for iPhone users who can record HD videos on their devices.

Fortunately, the development team added filters to the app in October, which enables users upload video without losing quality. That’s also cause a fast growth in usage and downloads.

Features—store videos in cloud and viewable from any device:

The video created by users can be stored in the cloud which is accessible form a range of devices.

Features—social media sharing:

This is the best part of this app. You can share video on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Email and SMS and like or comment videos. When you share a video, you don’t actually share the file but a link to webpage containing a preview of what you have recorded.

The integration with Facebook is great. You can pick users to follow from your Facebook friends that are already using Socialcam, and be followed and browse a selection of suggested users in the app.

Pros: free, easy to use, nice social media share functions.

Cons: if they want to become the “video Instagram”, it needs refinements in filter and setting to allow users to upload video with excellent quality. Some share options in Twitter should be improved just like what they did for Facebook.

Socialcam is available on Apple app store and Android app store.
