Ex-Ford Chairman, CEO Harold Poling Dies

Harold A. Poling, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Ford Motor Company, passed away at the age of 86. He played the leading role in restructuring of the company in the decade of 80’s and beginning of 90’s and turned the company into a strong business and a competitive player in the industry. The company’s management and work force is remembering Poling for his inspirational leadership and vision.

"Red Poling was an extraordinary leader who had a profound impact on Ford Motor Company and everyone who worked with him. With a list of accomplishments that span 43 years, including leading the company through a remarkable turnaround during the 1980s and 1990s, Red was respected by all for his leadership, his passion for being the low-cost producer and his genuine affinity for people.," Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford said as reported at Yahoo news.

Poling was known for his passion and leadership capability that has helped the company to sustain its position during his tenure as the head. He worked actively to introduce new models and make profits for the business through innovation in design and investments in the profitable ventures. He was a dedicated worker of his company and led the automaker towards top ranking in the competition.

He retired from Ford in the year 1994 where he served in various roles. He reached the top of hierarchy in the organization after a long career. He managed to the leadership position through his devoted efforts and interest in the job. His father was a mechanic and he workedwith him which developed his interest in the field. "We'd grind valves, change piston rings and clutches and lots of other jobs. It was serious work but to me it was interesting," Poling once told about his interest in the field.

Poling is survived by his wife Marian and two daughters and a son. He was a graduate of Monmouth College and had a masters in business administration degree from Indiana University. He started his affiliation with Ford through an internship and later started his job there which continued till he reached the top position.

Poling’s career is an example for the Ford’s workforce. They admire his strength and dedication to his work that helped the company to survive in the time of crises. He is an important part of Ford’s history and will always be remembered for his valuable services.
