Manny Pacquiao’s baptism with fire on Obama’s same sex stance: A commentary

Manny Pacquiao did not observe and listen carefully to the aftermath of President Barack Obama’s support on the issue of same sex marriage. He must have ill-thought to express his opinion about same sex relationship as the U.S president supported it. He must have been ill-advised to cite Biblical verse or passage that contradicts Obama’s support on gay marriage.

As a fighter Pacquio, only knows well his opponent as he comes face to face with him in the ring. As a solon, he knows that there are adversaries only when he opposes a particular proposal under deliberation.

Lately, Pacquiao has transformed from gloves bearing ring fighter into an overnight Bible bearing Christian preacher. The fighter, solon and preacher in Pacquiao, each has struggled to do something. The preacher in him must have been excited to effect transformations on those who listen to him. Nevertheless, he preaches not to win followers but he makes enemies out of the words of God.

Pacquiao met his baptism with fire in his role as a preacher. Incidentally, he was not discreet on the choice of a subject-matter. He was not aware that anywhere he preaches, there are ears keenly listening to whatever he says. Reciting his vows to the baptism of fire, Pacquiao said as cited in a petition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT} people, “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” as Junior Campbell reported.

Pacquiao’s baptism vows ran counter against self-esteem of LBGT people who heavily support Nike company. Gay groups urged Nike “To Drop Pacquiao as Endorser.” This baptism must be very costly that deprives Pacquiao of big income.

This experience enabled Pacquiao to learn the big cost of “preaching.” He must therefore, be selective of what he preaches.

Pacquiao is currently busy training in preparation to his match with Timothy Bradley. Hopefully, he will not do preaching before and after the fight. And he must bear in mind as well as he must be well advised to be very careful of what he will say in the post fight interviews.

It will be better for him not to say anything whenever ask about gay marriage in America, Philippines or anywhere in the world.
