After all these years, has opened up about his marriage with , saying that its devastating end was only because of his own insecurities and if there is anyone to blame, it’s him. Thornton says he is happy that Jolie and Brad Pitt are together.
In the interview that aired Wednesday Night on ABC’s "Nightline", Thornton admitted that his own weaknesses put his relation with Jolie in jeopardy.
“I blew it because I didn't think I was good enough for her,” he told “Nightline”, according to a report by Denver Post. “She has one way she wanted to live her life and I had another way to live mine and I was just too insecure.”
At the time of their marriage in 2000, both Jolie and Thornton had won Oscars. Thornton, however, was far more famous than his wife. But as Jolie’s career took a leap after she starred in “Girl Interrupted” and asin "Tomb Raider", things began to change.
"When you're in a relationship, any two celebrities or whatever, you know, I think that puts a lot of pressure," Thornton said. "When Angie and I got married, I was more famous than she was to start with and then when she becomes this big thing, it's hard in these relationships."
Thornton also said people had actually told him that he didn’t deserve to be with her, and a time came when he started to feel the same. Still the actor says they don’t hold anything against each other.
"We had a great marriage and I chickened out because I didn't feel good enough," he admits. "That's all that happened. It was no big deal; we never hated each other."
Jolie even penned a few lines as she recalled the time she shared with Thornton. In Thronton’s new book, “The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts”, Jolie praises her ex-husband for having a beautiful heart and an unmatchable wit. Jolie says he’s one of those few people who cannot shut out the voice of their conscience and continue through the journey of life, and this is something everyone loves him for.
When asked what he thinks of Hollywood’s famous Brangelina couple, he said, “I love them both…She is great for Brad and Brad is great for her. I support them 100 percent.”
