The message in the bottle was – ‘Is it better to love or be loved?’

It was written by Anne O’Sullivan, an Australian teacher.

She had put her address and contact details along with the message and had tossed it overboard as her cruise ship was crossing Indonesia.

The location was the central Indonesian island of Komodo.

15-months later she received an acknowledgement – it was in the form of a telephone call from a woman Fiona Marlton in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

Fiona Marlton had found the message in a bottle lying on the beach of Mozambique – the bottle had floated nearly 9000-Km away from where Anne had thrown it.

The two are now fast friends – Anne and her husband have travelled from their home in Sydney to Creighton, Durban, the home of Fiona.

The news has appeared in canada.com dated 16th of May 2012.
