
Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom "Modern Family," has revealed that she recently underwent a kidney transplant.
Hyland, 21, has battled kidney dysplasia all her life. The actress gave the interview to Seventeen magazine while she was recovering from surgery.
Her father, who starred with her in the movies "The Object of My Affection" and "Cradle Will Rock," was the donor.
Hyland was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia when she was 9 years old.A condition where her kidneys did not develop fully in the wombThe condition could lead to complications - namely failure of the organ or an impact on the second healthy kidney.
She underwent the procedure in April.Hyland plans to spend the show's summer hiatus recovering from her surgery.
She said learned to manage her disease while working on the set of "Modern Family."
The season 3 finale of "Modern Family" airs on May 23.
