Trayvon imaged sold as target on gun range

In what must be the most despicable development in the George Zimmerman murder case, the Hiller Armament Company of Virginia reportedly sold the image of Trayvon Martin as targets for gun range. Even more despicable, it sold out in two days.

According to CBS affiliate WKMG, the 'Trayvon Targets,' which has since been pulled, was made to look like the slain teen complete with Skittles and a can of iced-tea, plus hoodie. In their ad for the targets, the sellers reportedly say they support Zimmerman whom they believe to be innocent for they believed he had "shot a thug."

Defense lawyer Mark O'Mara was not happy with the online ad, saying this about the targets: "This is the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility." He reportely added that this "hatemongering" was going to make it more difficult to try the case and worried about what Trayvon's parents would feel if they saw the targets.

Incidentally, O'Mara also has an online site-GZLegalCase,-where supporters can go to donate towards his client defense fund or ask questions about the case. Before that, Zimmerman had his own site where he collected over $200,000 in donations. That site has since been taken down and the PayPal acccount funds turned over to his lawyer.

This large sum of money, which was not disclosed to the court, exceeds the amount judge Lester set for his bond. Lawyer O'Mara and Zimmerman's family had said during his Hearing that they had limited funds. To date the court has consdiered nothing about the subterfuge.

This latest news of Trayvon being used as target practice points to areas in our society still mired in bias, hate and abject insensitivity. How could they try to profit in this way from the death of a minor? Trayvon's parents would be devastated to see their son's image used for target at a gun range when he was gunned down and killed.

This goes beyond trying to make a cheap buck. It goes to the baseness of some who would want to twist the knife in the wounds of grieving parents and incite racial divide.

28-year-old George Zimmerman is out on $150,000 bail after he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla. Trayvon was was killed with a single hollow point bullet to the chest on Feb. 26 while walking home from the local 7-Eleven.

The neighborhood watch volunteer claimed he killed the teen in self-defense and under Florida's Stand Yor Ground law and was allowed to go free until widespread public outrage spurred an arrest 45 days after the killing.
