The drama that once began with entertaining storylines that kept its fans glued to the TV screen is finally airing its 2 hour finale episode on Sunday, May 13, on ABC, as its eighth and last season comes to an end.
Over the years, the series has proved to more of a drama with soapy touches from now and then to a soap filled with dramatic effects. Taking a flash back into those good old times, there was Susan, a single mother in search of love while struggling to raise her daughter at the same time. Then there was Bree who had an air of perfection about her, a perfect mother and a perfect wife. Lynette was always wanted to manage home and work at the same time, but mostly used to fail at the end of the day. And of course Gabrielle, who would do anything to have her husband’s attention, be it having an affair with the gardener.
As more seasons flew by, the once beloved story lines filled with fears and desires that fans understood, was overtaken by lies, murders and car crashes. No doubt the drama at times took some brilliant turns, that actually brought it this far, such as Lynette’s struggle with cancer and Gabriel’s miscarriage, but overall it failed to capture a big an audience it enjoyed in it’s early days.
Things that were thought to shoot up the ratings started to backfire, such as Lynette’s split with Tom, Mike’s death and Carlos’ blindness did nothing than downing the ratings. The diehard fans, however, disappointed, did not stop following the series.
Sadly we have to admit Desperate Housewives has not been at its top for the past couple of seasons, with the same characters going though the same storylines over and over again, however it did a great job in keeping the most beloved women of the show, together all these years. No matter what the scenarios were, when they would meet up and talk over the issues of their lives, it has undoubtedly kept the fans sit up for at least the commercial break shows up.
As the wives wave a final goodbye on Sunday, one thing is for certain. The somewhat flawed and not so perfect yet wonderful, sexy, funny and strong women of the Wisteria Lane will surely be missed by their fans.
