Heavy rains over the weekend have resulted in flash floods and have left behind at least 5 dead in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, when the River Mtkvari breached its banks as reported in BBC dated 13th of May 2012.
The dead have been identified as a mother, her two young children and an elderly woman – they had been trapped inside their house.
The flood waters have submerged the roads and have disrupted communication with power supplies also adversely affected.
Landslides have also occurred and this has brought with it the problems of accumulation of huge quantities of mud and carcasses of dead animals apart from uprooted trees.
A state of emergency has been declared by the authorities and troops have been sent in to help the flood affected people and bring back normalcy.
